Magician Gordon Russ Performs
| A crowd of more than 100 people enjoyed a Wednesday, August 9, performance by magician Gordon Russ at the St. Ignace Public Library. The magic show was the finale of the library's summer reading program. Russ, a Ferndale resident who also has a home on Borgstrom Road east of Naubinway, is the son-in-law of St. Ignace's Bob and Molly Boynton. He was making his third tour of the Upper Peninsula this summer. During the tour which included his in St. Ignace, Russ performed at five other U.P. libraries, including the library in Engadine. At the St. Ignace Public Library, Russ presented his "Wide World of Sports" magic show, which included juggling, making his rabbit, "Hotdog" magically appear, and several tricks that involved linking and un-linking a set of metal rings. Russ also had audience members participate in several tricks, including one which featured objects balanced on the nose of audience member Grace Wheeler. A professional magician since 1989, Russ said his interest in magic began when his father, also a magician, taught him a few tricks several years ago. A former director of a youth center, Russ performs primarily for younger audiences, at libraries, schools, fairs, and festivals. |
